Broadcast Is Healthy

How’s business? “Broadcast is healthy,” Wells Fargo Securities analyst Marci Ryvicker told clients as she reviewed the industry. Ryvicker said it appeared that ad sales improved in the first months of 2012. Her analysis showed positive pacing for February and March.

Automotive and telecom advertisers are contributing to the low- to mid-single digit increases, along with some Q4 business that shifted into the new year. That’s good news for terrestrial radio!  And with the millions of FM radio receivers out there just waiting to be used, there are plenty of properties to place business.

So, there are over 100,000,000 FM equipped Android phones in the US with over 400,000 activated daily that do not incur data charges (like Pandora) or drop out when traveling (like cell phones) or use up excessive battery capacity. That’s nearly a half million new FM radios introduced to Americans every day!

More good news! Blackberry has millions of FM chips in radios all around the world. Now, we just need to remind people to use them. We need to send this powerful, yet simple, message to all those potential listeners/users. Radio is everywhere! It’s in your home, your car, and it’s on our Smart Phones.

And speaking of cars, guess what? The US is home to the largest passenger vehicle market of any country in the world. In 2008, almost 256,000,000 vehicles were registered the US, according to a US Bureau of Transportation Statistics study. And nearly every vehicle is equipped with an AM/FM radio.

So what? So now, we have a quarter of a billion car radios and hundreds of millions of smart phones able to listen! Perception is reality, and radio is what others perceive it to be, right? It’s convenient, effective, essential, relevant, FREE and EVERYWHERE.

Radio, it has the absolute power to create the image you chose.
