A Think Tank Just For Radio

LinkedIn is a pretty brilliant idea. It’s a free social networking website connecting companies and industry professionals who are looking to make new business contacts or help them keep in touch with previous co-workers, affiliates, and clients. In short, LinkedIn is Facebook dressed up in a business suit.

But there is a flaw. Not all 60 million LinkedIn users belong to – or are interested in – the same industry as you, which can make the website a little overwhelming. Television networks these days seem to have specific reality shows for everything and everyone! Shows committed to cupcakes, hoarders, coupons, or even hog hunting. So why can’t social networks be just as unambiguous? Wise Brother Media, a company known for helping radio stations around the world with their radio show content, has developed just that. A brand new, free online social networking community built specifically for radio professionals called StudioThinkTank.com.

It took me all of 45 seconds to sign up for Studio Think Tank, and was instantly able to navigate and explore the website rather easily. Immediately I was introduced to the home page, where the top stories picked by the Editor are shown. The day I signed up, the Editor’s Picks ranged from tips on using your stations Facebook effectively, how to successfully do a solo morning show and an opportunity to submit a story voiced over the air to be critiqued by a top radio professional. The rest of the home page shows user updates, the most popular content of the day, and the week’s top contributors.

What’s interesting about Studio Think Tank, is the website actually rewards its most active members. Three weeks ago, Ric Rush from WXLY-FM won an Apple iPad 3 just for posting, commenting and liking! Members get certain points for doing certain things, such as posting a new topic is worth 30 points. The user with the most points at the end of the week is handsomely rewarded with a prize for their contributions to the website. So far, prizes have ranged from Beats by Dre Headphones to 500 dollars in cash money. Just imagine all the prizes you could’ve won so far if Facebook or LinkedIn offered the same kind of deal!

Throughout the rest of the website, members can explore an actual “Think Tank” of ideas, stories and news, search the community of the website for other radio professionals by name and/or station and gain exclusive access to booking contact information for potential celebrity guests.

Studio Think Tank is a combination of all the latest social networks out there but made only for Radio Professionals. It’s not only useful but beneficial to anyone in the radio industry looking to receive or even share advice to those who are just as dedicated to and love radio.
